For healthcare

Zebra printers integrated with the hospital IT system are used in order to ensure safety and comfort at every stage of a patient’s journey through the hospital. Thanks to bar codes the work of medical personnel becomes optimized. Bar codes and, more recently, RFID (radio frequency identification) are being used to help reduce the incidence of mistakes in identification as well as to speed up hospital processes from admissions to outpatients, from the pharmacy to the wards.

Benefits of implementing Zebra’s printers for healthcare:

  • Increased safety
- Patient identification (permanent print on the patient’s wristband guarantees proper identification of even unconscious patients and allows access to their data; there is no risk of losing any piece of information). - Medical records (a bar code on the wristband or label allows to store data in a reliable way and also ensures that data can be identified and transferred without duplicating). - Laboratory specimens (scanning the bar code on the patient’s wristband ensures that the full and correct data can be transferred to the specimen label automatically).
- Medication administration (with a mobile printer, the pharmacist can label a patient’s personal medication on the nursing floor; the hospital pharmacy can also print unit-of-use bar code labels to provide a full audit trail).

- Blood transfusions (blood bags are routinely bar-coded with their type, but when the bags are issued from the blood bank, it is important that the right blood gets to the right patient; that is why addition
al labelling of the blood bag with patient’s data significantly improves safety).

  • Correct patient identification
- Phlebotomy (using a handheld terminal and a mobile printer, the phlebotomist scans the patient’s wristband and prints an identification label for the blood sample, which eliminates incorrect labeling of the samples taken from the patient).
- Blood transfusions (a compatibility label is printed and attached to the blood bag in the blood bank; before the transfusion is administered, there should be the following confirmation of the bar code on both the patient’s wristband and the label on the blood bag; it allows for automatic verification that the right patient receives the right blood type).
- Bedside medication delivery (printing the label at the patient’s bedside using a mobile printer reduces the possibility of printing the wrong information; automated medication scanning before administering reduces the risk of error).

  • Saving time and costs in hospital administration
- The system makes it possible to save nearly 3 hours out of 12-hour nursing shift, and then transfers information to the hospital medical documentation registry.
- Barcodes and printed labels (reduce administration time while increasing safety).
- Mobility (decentralise computer and printer access).
- Printer management (monitor and control printer populations).
- ZebraNet Bridge Enterprise (centralised configuration allows for real-time management of multiple Zebra printers from anywhere on the end user’s network).

Thermal printers for healthcare from Zebra:
Mobile printers

The QL series printers are compact, convenient and lightweight mobile printers with QuickLinkTM connectivity. They are resistant due to proper construction and rubber infused design, and an optional LCD display ensures ease of use. Also optionally wireless communication is available, which guarantees easy integration printers with computer network. The QL printers are ideal for printing specimen or medication labels at the patient’s bedside.

Printers are available with a wide choice of applications helpful in printing.

The most popular printers of the QL series dedicated to healthcare: Zebra QL 220, Zebra QL 420.

Desktop printers

Thermal desktop printers provide fast, convenient and reliable printing of patients’ wristbands and identification labels for samples, medication or files. Whether located in the pharmacy, laboratory or at the nurses’ station on the ward, these printers offer either direct thermal print technology where ribbonfree easy-to-use systems are needed or thermal transfer print technology where more durable printing is required.

Wristband printer Zebra HC100 with an integrated cartridge is an innovative appliance designed to identify patients in healthcare units. It is ideal for the emergency departments, outpatients’ surgeries and other departments of hospitals. HC100 printer is also widely used in industries such as security services, hotel management, organisation of events, access control and everywhere, where bands can be used to identify guests and visitors.

Designed with a view to the user
Complete and integrated Zebra solution designed to print wristbands include direct thermal printer with easy-to-load cartridges containing the industry's only antimicrobial-coated wristbands—Zebra’s Z-Band® wristbands. Intelligent technology detects wristband size and automatically calibrates its settings for optimal print quality.

The construction of the HC100 printer provides easy-to-use features which do not require any or only some supervision on the part of the user. Operating of the HC100 printer as well as loading or replacing cartridges require minimal user training – all the steps are simple and quick.

The HC100 printer is designed to print wristbands. Administrators can quickly deal with patients’ admission without the need to change the media in the printer. In addition, the device eliminates wastage by printing exactly the required number of bands.

Very fast, with a robust casing, the Zebra ZM400 printer is an ideal solution used to print labels in the hospital stock control and managing files in the archive.

ZM400 is an improved version of Z Series printers: with a wider choice of interfaces, better productivity and simpler maintenance. The printer is adjusted to RFID technology, and its large LCD screen allows for easy configuration.

The Zebra 110XiIIIPlus printer is ideal for printing blood-bag labels at the blood donor centres. The 110XiIIIPlus has a 32-bit processor for fast throughput and increased memory for graphics, fonts and label formats such as the ISBT 128 label. The printers also offer more connectivity options including XML-enabled printing, ZebraNet wireless- and wired- print server and USB 2.0. The 110XiIIIPlus printer allows for printing on various kinds of materials (paper labels, specialist labels and tags, plastic tags), it has the option to support RFID technology and a wide choice of interfaces; it also ensures high-volume printing.

Zebra’s innovative R2844-Z printer can read, write and print RFID labels to identify and track medical records as they move from ward to consultant through to outpatients. The R2844-Z can also be used to print and encode RFID patient wristbands that allow patients to be tracked at every stage of their journey through hospital.

Zebra R2844-Z ensures direct thermal and thermal transfer printing of bar codes, text and graphics. Options available: real time clock, memory extension, internal PrintServer.

Application of portable printers, together with the ZEBRA original consumables in the healthcare sector raises productivity and comfort and helps reduce errors, which improves patient safety.
